3 hours in Copenhagen

The idea with staying in Copenhagen was simple. ”We need to stay somewhere to sleep, I will not travel with night bus” Martin said. So we booked one night at the Savoy hotel on Vesterbrogade 34, close to the Copenhagen centralstation, Kobenhavns Hovedbanegård.        Arriving in Copenhagen our plan was to buy the train tickets for Berlin via Hamburg, in the station, but after ending up in a queue in the station, longer than the bridge of Öresund, our plans changed and we bought the tickets online. This went well but the tickets where printed in German, not sure why since not that many people speak that language anymore!  Writing this me and Martin is on the train to Hamburg where we will have a 45 minutes stop and then head for Berlin. We will see what we can make of 45 minutes. Blogging from an ipad isn’t that bad after all since the time on the train now is spend trying to hit the right spot on the touchscreen. Martin sleeps, again, and he …

Trains in Bergslagen – from Grythyttan to Copenhagen

After a lot of thinking we never bought any interrail tickets for our traintravel in Europe. The main reason being that it in the end wasn’t going to be any cheaper, but also the fact that it wasn’t as comfortable as I thought, actaully, it was tricky.   Reading instructions on interrail homepage made it sound easy. But in the end when checking other sites and people who used it it seemed like you had to pay extra booking and reservation fees. I thought the whole point was that you don’t needed to do this? Checking more closely this was the case in almost all countries I checked so in the end we decided to go for buying one ticket at a time.  Price for ingerrail excluding booking/reservation fees, about 3500 sek/ 360 euro for Martin for 22 days (21 years of age) and 7500 sek/760 euro for me. (Seeing that, I realised I was old) So today when leaving our first tickets were booked and ready on the SJ webpage for Swedish trains. These tickets …

The cost of backpacking by train in Europe

During the summer me and Martin backpacked for 3 weeks in Europe by train. We traveled 2 weeks by train and 1 week on boat. Before the trip we checked out Interrail as an alternative to get the lowest price for our travel but in the end decided to buy ticket by ticket. This is the cost: Interrail Price for interrail excluding booking/reservation fees, about 360 euro for Martin for 22 days (21 years of age) and 760 euro for me. 22 days total – 1120 euro 10 days within 22 days total – 281 euro + 588 euro : 869 euro Grythyttan to Copenhagen – Our first stretch was from Grythyttan to Copenhagen and within our home-country and therefor not included in the interrail ticket. These tickets costed us 1200 sek/ 127 euros for two and took us from Grythyttan to Örebro, from Örebro to Mjölby with Tåg i Bergslagen (Trains in Bergslagen) and then from Mjölby directly to Copenhagen with the Swedish high speed train SJ X2000. Backpacking plans- From Paris to Berlin

Started planning next year trips. The major trip I am undertaking is going backpacking through Europe with train. I love love love train. So expect to be bombarded with photos mainly of trains.. Went googling, another favorite sports of mine today and ended up on Interrail homepage. Found the below map.  The Rail Planner App On the page I also found the Rail Planner App when checking the prices for backpacking passes. I wish I was under the age of 25 but since I am not I will pay more than twice as much as Martin. For 22 days I will pay 812 Euros if I buy my pass today and Martin will pay 345 Euros. I actually though it would be cheaper for me, but it wasn´t. Anyway, to plan your travels it is possible to use the Rail Planner App where you can check out the train time schedule. I tried it and it worked fine. The Interrail website also have other tips as how to plan your travels according to a small …
